Detailed Itinerary
Are you limited to just one day in Sighisoara and want to make the most of your time? This tour offers the perfect solution, as it covers an impressive four of Transylvania’s UNESCO Heritage Sites in a memorable day trip.
Your private tour commences with a convenient pick-up from your accommodation in Sighisoara.
Biertan Fortified Church, a true masterpiece of Transylvania’s architectural heritage is the strongest fortified church of Transylvania. This impressive structure served as the Evangelic Episcopal See for three centuries.
Exploring the church, you’ll discover Romania’s largest polyptych altar, as well as three lines of defensive walls that testify to the church’s strategic importance.
Don’t miss the chance to see the sacristy’s multi-point locking mechanism, the first of its kind ever invented, or the Marital Prison, an ultra-efficient medieval couple’s therapy technique.
Saschiz Fortified Church is up next on our tour and has been under UNESCO protection since 1999. This Gothic cathedral was completed in 1525 and is dedicated to Saint Stephen of Hungary. What makes this church stand out from the others on the tour is its impressive combination of military defensive architecture and religious significance. The cathedral is a perfect example of how these two elements can be seamlessly blended together. You’ll be amazed at how effectively the church’s simple military defense system was able to protect its inhabitants.
Viscri Fortified Church is undoubtedly the most famous of its kind in Transylvania. This church, located in a bucholic village that captivated King Charles of Great Britain, is the oldest standing Fortified Church in the region and one of the best preserved. Its historic significance make it a must-see for any visitor to Transylvania. You’ll quickly understand why this church has captured the hearts of so many.
Medieval Citadel of Sighisoara will conclude our day trip. A town steeped in history and birtplace to the infamous ruler Vlad the Impaler, who inspired the character of Dracula. Sighisoara boasts the last continuously inhabited medieval citadel in Eastern Europe and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. As a local born and raised in this town, I’ll give you an authentic perspective and present you all the symbols of this medieval town, including the Clock Tower, Church on the Hill, and even the house where Vlad Tepes was born.
Designed also with consideration for senior tourists seeking an accessible and enjoyable experience, the itinerary of this tour is senior-friendly.
